Baha’i children’s classes in Pittsburgh
“Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.”— Bahá’u’lláh
Baha’is see spiritual education as a lifelong process of communal learning, exploration and service, beginning in childhood. In Pittsburgh, children’s classes take place twice monthly in the homes of different participants. Our teachers build each lesson around a distinct virtue, like love or unity. The children pray together, learn a short quote by heart, learn and sing a song, do an art activity and play a game revolving around this virtue.
For example, in a recent lesson on love, participants learned this quote:
“In the garden of thy heart, plant naught but the rose of love.” — Bahá’u’lláh
The children played a game where they had to walk toward each other on a plank of wood and cooperate to get to opposite ends without stepping off, producing both giggles and triumphant cheers.
