O SON OF SPIRIT! My first counsel is this: Possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart, that thine may be a sovereignty ancient, imperishable and everlasting.
Hidden Words of Bahá’u’llah
The Bahá’í community in Pittsburgh is part of a worldwide religion with adherents in over 200 countries and territories. The Bahá’í Faith is based on the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh (1817-1892) and dates back to 1844. Bahá’u’lláh’s writings on the oneness of God, religion and humanity offer spiritual guidance as well as directives for personal and social conduct. Bahá’ís around the world are engaged in the process of learning how to translate that guidance into realities of individual and community life. Though they come from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, they are united by their belief in Bahá’u’lláh and by their desire for a united, prosperous and peaceful future for all of humanity.
Principles of the Baha’i Faith

The first Baha’i community in Pittsburgh was organized in August 1909 and continued to grow steadily throughout the first half of the twentieth century. In the 1970s and 1980s, people from all over the world began to emigrate to the region to work or study bringing an influx of Baha’is from many other countries. Today, there are many localities throughout Western Pennsylvania with Bahá’í communities. Although not large in numbers, these groups reflect a wide range of diversity in race and ethnicity, age and gender, economics and employment.
The Bahá’ís of Pittsburgh have persevered for a hundred years to promote unity in all aspects of daily life and society by conducting children’s classes, youth workshops and adult study sessions and by participating in interfaith events and ecumenical activities with other like minded faiths and organizations.
